Growth in Daily Fantasy Sports as Football Season Kicked Off

September is the biggest time of the year for daily fantasy sports (DFS) to acquire new players - and this September has been the biggest ever for the two leading companies, DraftKings and FanDuel.

The number of new people spending money on these sites1 is up 316% from last September.

Among these new players, the majority went to DraftKings, while nearly 6% of them spent money on both sites.

Each company acquired some players from the other company.

  • 13% of DraftKings’ new paying players tried FanDuel first2
  • 5% of FanDuel’s new paying players tried DraftKings first2

While $25 was the most common amount, more than 20% of these new players added $100 or more to their accounts in September.

September showed growth, but acquisition is only part of the game. Are players going to stick around and spend? The recent scrutiny on DFS adds uncertainty, and many questions remain. Request a demo to access in-depth analyses as the season goes on.
